Is Your Panel Holding Your Home Back?
Your electrical panel decides how much power your home can safely use. Many North County homes still have 100-amp panels that were fine decades ago but weren't built for EV chargers, heat pumps, induction ranges, or solar. When a panel is overloaded or worn out, you get tripping breakers, flickering lights, and real fire risk.
Signs It's Time
- Breakers that trip often, or lights that dim when the AC or dryer kicks on
- A panel that's 25–30 years old or more
- A Federal Pacific (FPE), Zinsco, or other problem-brand panel
- Scorch marks, buzzing, rust, or a warm panel cover
- No open spaces for new circuits
- Plans for an EV charger, solar, battery, spa, or a remodel
What a Panel Upgrade Includes
Ryan starts with a load calculation so the new panel is sized to what your home actually needs. The job typically includes a new panel or meter main, new breakers, upgraded grounding and bonding to current code, and labeled circuits. We pull the permit, coordinate with SDG&E for the disconnect and reconnect, and schedule the inspection.
You get one flat price before the work starts, and the work is backed by our workmanship warranty.
Burning smell or hot panel? Turn off the main breaker if it's safe to do so and call right away. Don't wait on that one.

Common Questions
How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?
Common signs are breakers that trip often, flickering lights when appliances run, a panel older than 25–30 years, or plans to add an EV charger, solar, or a major appliance. We can inspect your panel and tell you whether an upgrade is needed.
How long does a panel upgrade take?
The installation itself usually takes a day, with power off for part of it. Permit approval and SDG&E scheduling for the disconnect and reconnect add time before and after. Ryan will give you the full timeline up front.
Should I replace a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel?
Yes, we recommend it. These brands have a well-documented history of breakers that may not trip when they should. If you have one, it's worth having it looked at even if you aren't adding anything new.
Do I need 200 amps?
Many homes adding an EV charger, heat pump, or solar do. But not every home needs a full service upgrade. Ryan runs a load calculation and recommends the size that fits your actual needs.
